Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Omnichar LLP(“we”, “us”) handles information in connection with OmniChar, our open-source studio for AI characters. It covers the website you are reading, the app you run on your own machine, and OmniChar Cloud, which are three different things and are treated differently below.

Who we are

OmniChar is a product of Omnichar LLP, a limited liability partnership registered in India. The OmniChar app is free and open source under the GPL-3.0 license.

Scope

This policy covers three things: the omnichar.org website, the OmniChar app, and OmniChar Cloud at cloud.omnichar.org. They are different in ways that matter. The website is a normal marketing site we host. The app runs locally on your own machine and is designed to keep your work local. OmniChar Cloud is a hosted service you sign in to, and it does hold your content on our infrastructure.

OmniChar is local-first

The OmniChar app is a local app that runs on your own machine. Your projects, media, models, and API keys stay on your device. We do not receive them, and we do not store them on our servers.

• Your fal.ai API key is stored locally on your machine and is sent only to fal.ai when you generate. It is not sent to us.
• Your media and models stay on your own machine. Inline Core generates locally on your GPU, so we never receive them.
• The app is open source, so anyone can inspect exactly what it does. The code is on GitHub.

OmniChar Cloud

OmniChar Cloud at cloud.omnichar.org is a hosted service, and it works differently from the local app. You sign in, your files are uploaded to us, and generation runs on GPUs we rent rather than on your own machine. This section describes what that means for your data.

What we hold

• Account data: your name, email address and profile picture, as Google gives them to us when you sign in.
• Content you upload: reference images, which may show a person’s face, along with prompts and training data.
• Content we generate for you: images, video and .char files, and the records of the runs that produced them.
• Usage and billing data: the runs you start, credits granted and spent, and run timings.

Where it is processed

We run OmniChar Cloud on infrastructure other companies operate. Each of them handles your data under its own privacy policy as well as this one.

• Supabase, for accounts and the database. See Supabase’s privacy policy.
• Cloudflare R2, for file storage. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
• RunPod, for GPU compute. See RunPod’s privacy policy.

Why we hold it

We use this data to provide the service, to keep it secure, and to account for the credits you are granted and spend. We do not use your uploads or your outputs to train models. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.

Faces and likeness

A reference image can identify a real person, and we treat it that way. We process reference images only to build and run the characters you ask for. You must have the consent of any real, identifiable person whose images you upload. The Terms of Serviceset out what you may and may not do with someone else’s likeness.

How long we keep it

Your content stays until you delete it or close your account. Account and billing records are kept for as long as we need them to run the service and to meet our legal obligations.

Deleting your account and content

You can delete individual items in the app. To delete your account and the content that belongs to it, email us at support@omnichar.org and we will action it.

Third-party services

OmniChar can reach services that other companies run. Those services are governed by their own privacy policies, not this one. Where you pay a provider directly, such as fal.ai, that account and billing relationship is between you and them.

Through the app:

• Google, which provides our analytics. See Google’s privacy policy.
• Vercel, our hosting and content delivery provider. See Vercel’s privacy policy.
• GitHub, which hosts our source code and releases you can download. See GitHub’s privacy policy.
• Discord, which hosts our community. See Discord’s privacy policy.

Through OmniChar Cloud:

• Google, which handles sign-in and tells us your name, email address and profile picture. See Google’s privacy policy.
• Supabase, which holds accounts and the database. See Supabase’s privacy policy.
• Cloudflare, whose R2 service stores your files. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
• RunPod, which provides the GPUs your runs execute on. See RunPod’s privacy policy.
• Google Analytics 4, which counts which features are used and whether runs finish. It never receives your prompts, uploads, character names or account details.

Information the public website collects

This section is about omnichar.org, the public marketing site, and not about OmniChar Cloud, which is covered above. On the public website we keep collection to a minimum.

• Analytics: in production we use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate traffic, such as page views, general device and browser type, and approximate location. Google Analytics 4 uses your IP address to estimate location and does not store it.
• Server logs: our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps standard request logs, which can include IP address, browser user agent, and timestamps. These are used to run and secure the site.
• The getting-started page loads a video preview image from YouTube. When that page loads, your browser contacts Google to fetch the image.

Cookies

For normal visitors, the only cookies set are Google Analytics cookies, used for the aggregate analytics described above. We do not use advertising cookies. If you sign in to our admin area, which is for our staff only, a session cookie is used to keep you signed in; that does not apply to normal visitors. OmniChar Cloud sets a session cookie to keep you signed in there, plus the same Google Analytics cookies. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings.

How we use information

We use the limited website data above to operate and secure the site and to understand, in aggregate, how it is used so we can improve it. We use OmniChar Cloud data for the purposes set out in that section. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.

Your rights

If you are in India, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 gives you rights over your personal data. Depending on the situation these include the right to access your data, to have it corrected, completed, or updated, to have it erased, and to raise a grievance. Because the OmniChar app is local-first, most of the data you create with it already stays under your control on your own machine.

Data retention

We hold little to no personal data from the public website. Analytics data is retained by Google for the period set in our Google Analytics configuration. Hosting request logs are kept for a short period by our hosting provider. Data that lives inside the app stays on your device for as long as you keep it, and you can delete it at any time. Content in OmniChar Cloud is retained as described in the OmniChar Cloud section above.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the data we handle. The local-first design of the app reduces exposure, because your projects and keys are not sent to us. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

The website, the app and OmniChar Cloud are not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will address it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of this page, and for material changes we will make a reasonable effort to highlight them.

Governing law

This policy is governed by the laws of India. Any disputes relating to it are subject to the courts at Gurugram, Haryana.
